Environmental Protection Costs
In 2020, WACKER invested €0.8 million in environmental protection (2019: €5.1 million). Environmental operating costs amounted to €83.0 million (2019: €82.9 million). Half of our environmental expenditure in 2020 was for waste management at the Zhangjiagang site. We began preliminary work on building a flue-gas denitrification (DeNOx) facility in the Nünchritz waste-incineration plant. At Burghausen, we invested in a new measurement vehicle.
Examples of our environmental protection investments in 2019: our automation efforts at the Burghausen site further improved availability of the sludge incineration facility and reduced harmful emissions. At our wastewater treatment plant in Nünchritz, we automated the inflow of nutrients and additives in order to align them with demand, to avoid excess additions and to lower discharges into waterways.
