Siltronic (Oregon, USA) was one of a few companies to be awarded the Recycle-At-Work Certification for the 2009 to 2010 period by the City of Portland. This award recognizes Siltronic’s recycling and waste reduction accomplishments. Siltronic’s Koreen Lail (environmental coordinator) regularly explains to employees how everyone can help the environment by reusing materials and by separating and reducing waste. “Changing our printer settings, for example, was one small step that saves a lot of paper and costs,” she explains. “At our Portland site, we now automatically copy or print each sheet two-sided for the majority of our copying or printing.” Such steady commitment is bearing fruit – the recycling rate rose from 60 to 85 percent between 2005 and 2010.
